black & cream: yumi kim + steve madden

IN PREPARATION FOR my upcoming trip to LA, I thought I'd wear as much black as possible before being confronted with bright colors, palm trees and sandy beaches. Although confronted does seem like a strong word... it's not as if the colors are attacking me. Right? How about embraced... welcomed. I love colors! I will try not to pack black, but as New Yorkers, is that a feat we can fathom? Update pending.

Love,

east village romping: pinky otto culottes + steve madden virrtues

LEAPING + BOUNDING! I thought: "This cabbie must think I'm ca-razy! Jumping in the street to get these shots. HA!" And then I realized that a girl jumping in the street is the sanest thing dude has seen all day. #NYC

Culottes (aka women's pants cut like a skirt). All the rage. They say so much (What? Purple snakeskin doesn't do it for you?), so I like to keep the rest of the look simple. I'll also pair with a black tank for a nighttime look and am always just as hippie-pleased with myself.

P.S. Do you spy SKULL hiding in the accessories pic? Sometime she's my inner shy coming through. Belie' dat.

the waldorf astoria and a vintage black gown

IT WAS KINDA like a fairy tale... Sneaking away to snap pics at the Waldorf Astoria.

I was attending the *CPJ IPFA Awards, but I couldn't resist using the opportunity for a blog post :-)

The Dress: I walked into the East Village boutique, Rena Reborn, and said, "I need a gown for a black-tie event at the Waldorf Astoria, HELP!" Serendipity (aka Rachael Rush) stepped in and voila! A beautiful vintage beaded black dress appeared. It.Was.Magical.

And no pumpkin shrinking god mother can take it away from me!

romper season: yumi kim romper + michael kors platforms

IT TAKES TRYING on hundreds of rompers before finding THE ONE. I can't imagine why… although I'd hazard a guess its because my-thighs-are-ahem-large-I-guess-running-track-for-15-years-will-do-that-to-you. Sigh. But Yumi Kim solved that with her gorgeous and flattering jumpers. Yay!

Sidebar: these platforms were my first big-girl shoe purchase :-) Just 2 months after I moved to NYC, I wandered into the Michael Kors SOHO store and there was a sale. Serendipitous really. Countless wears and no regrets. #thatsthewayitshouldbe
Also Medusa necklace is the bombest.

it's the colors that get me: yumi kim blazer & maxi

SOMETIMES, WHEN YOU know, you know. I walked into the Yumi Kim flagship store in the LES and my mouth dropped. To the floor.

Oh, hello there. Why aren’t you a perfectly sculpted maxi dress with an ohmygod color combination. The print is Pucci-esq, but this price tag doesn't cause my hand to momentarily pause (just for a second) as I hand over my credit card. #lifechoices
I tend to stray from too-girly (the tomboy in me actively shrivels), so I boy’d it with these suede boots. The chains jingle when I walk. Because they were made for walkin'.
Maxi dresses make me wanna frolic. Especially this crazy print and this muted tone. Aaaand now I'm lusting.

And The Skull says HI. Isn't she key-uuute?
